* Narcolepsy * This song was written when Kevin was telling Stephan about an experience where his mind woke up before his body, and he felt paralyzed. Kevin said it was a pretty scary experience, his body was still sleeping while his mind was awake. In some cases, this can be a symptom of Narcolepsy. Kevin went ahead and had it checked out by his doctor and found out he did NOT have narcolepsy. After going through this two times, Kevin played a guitar riff for Stephan and wrote about it, also with the included metaphor "dont we all just want to wake up" * How's It Gonna Be * In my own words I'd say Hows It Gonna Be is not just about the end of a relationship, it also seems like Stephan is thinking of why he should end it, or why he shouldnt. He's thinking about what it would be like with out this person, or if he stays with her, because he doesn't really care anymore. It's what everyone thinks or goes through before the end to a relationship. It's almost as though he's playing a mind game with himself..not sure of what to do. And that makes his decision twice as harder. Theres the point where he doesnt care and wants it to be over, then theres the side where he just wants everything to go back to the way it used to be. I'm not sure exactly what this song means, but that's what it means to me mostly, and no matter what it 'truley' means, its an *awesome* song! * I Want You * In my words I'd say this song is going into depth about how much he loves and admires his girlfriend and everything that she does and everything that she is. It's like even in a world filled with chaos and troubles, he feels at peace just being with her. So in love that he can't seem to get enough of her, and knows that when it all ends he won't regret ever being with her because it was worth it, and he'll never forget any of the little things that made up her because she was the greatest thing to ever happen in his life. * Motorcycle Drive By * To me this song sort of means wanting something you lost, something that you need in your life, but know that will never work out the way you imagine. It's like he goes back to all the memories of riding along with one another feeling untouchable, on top of the world, like nothing could break them apart. Then the truth comes that they both want different things in life, they both have different plans for themselves and this gets in the way of their relationship. And even after she is gone, he feels for her. After he goes to see her, he sees how she has changed dramatically and he can't handle her new lifestyle. So he decides to block her out of his life for good- and move on with his life. Yet, in his mind he still has that burning and he can't escape what used to be the perfect relationship.. and towards the end he tries to come to terms not only with the girl but mostly with himself, he tries to put things away and live his life, but she is still there- and he knows that its a feeling he will have to live with for the rest of his life.
* Wounded * Wounded, is in fact my favorite song on the CD "Blue" I have the long sleave shirt where on the back it has some of the lyrics and the woman, who looks almost 'broken' and beat down. Much like the woman in this song. It seems like Stephan was with her once but after they ended they remained friends. However, she found herself in an abusive relationship or was sexually assaulted and slowly she started to shy away from him. The friendship they had was coming to a hault because she was scared of what would happen if she remained friends with him, what her new partner would do. He felt confused about why she wasnt coming around anymore, why she wouldnt talk to him. She was in a trance, and daze and she was trapped...she was "walking with the wounded" After he became aware of what was happening he wanted to bring her back, get her safe again and at peace. He told her like it was, he missed her and wanted her to fight the feelings and get out of the abusive relationship and be strong- stand up to her fears. After she ended her bad relationship she was still stuck with the wounded, and she went into a phase where she hated men, and she was confused still- she didnt know how to handle what happened to her. Still, he wanted her to stand up for herself, and realize that she can put whatever happened away and go back to being the person she was. Meanwhile, I think he found out that he was still in love with her the whole time. He wants her to know that he is there for her, and she doesnt need to cut him off, and keep him blocked off b/c he's not the bad guy and he won't hurt her like she already was hurt. * Slow Motion * The original version of this song was pulled from the Record "Blue" mostly because of it's graphic content.. I don't really understand why, mostly because there is much worse songs out there- but maybe it was because this song sparked a certain truth. ?? ..maybe. You kind of have to hear the song and take it as you want. I do know that this song is not trying to promote violence like it's a good thing- but make people aware of what is happening out there and that the only people to blame is ourselves.... in one point of the song it turns to media and T.V for a general excuse for our society's violence. But really it turns back to our home-lives, and what happens to us at home and in our society. Violence triggers Violence I guess. And it explains how media exploits violence and throws it all over t.v and makes it look 'cool' or 'okay' that comes from the part "hollywood glamourize my wrath" It all fits in with the way our society really functions, and like I said, it's a truth that people aren't ready to understand. |

* Semi- Charmed Life * If you know how to listen to a song, I'm sure you'd get a little bit of understanding of where this song comes from. Pass the "doot doot doots" you'd find a more darker side sharing the world of speed, sex and crystal meth addictions. In no way is Semi-Charmed Life autobiographal. It came from a time when Stephan was at Lollapalooza in San Fransisco, and some of his friends had brought speed. He said none of them have ever done it before and a week later they were all addicts. Stephan denies the rumors of him ever being a Speed Addict but in fact said he "might of dated one" "It sounds bright and shiny for a reason. That's the way crystal myth feels. It's a sunny disposition drug. It's supposed to sound attractive because the song is about a decadent lifestyle. But it's also a cautionary tale. There are real consequences to the choices we make. Crystal meth will lift you up until you break." says Stephan. This song, also means trying to find something, anything to survive..whether it's faith, passion, love, lust, desire...anything. It goes deeper than the chirpy radio-played song. It goes into a true story of what is going on in our society. * Good For You * Stephan says that this song is about a stalker. And in this song it sounds like Stephan is the one doing the stalking...not saying that he is or was And it sounds like he doesnt really get why what he is doing is wrong.. because "all i wanna do is be there for the things that you're going through" Put aside from the stalking, it sounds like it could also be about being in an obsessive relationship where things aren't going smoothly, and he's trying to make her understand why he obsesses over her,...or ummm...something like that =) * The Background * Stephan says this : Have you ever felt like your life was in high gear, and you were right in the moment, and you were happy, and rolling into some glorious unknown future? And then have that all taken away? And .. then lived in sort of the post-period of that high? That's what it's like to live in the background." To me this song is kind of personal. It's like when a person you were so close to dies, it's hard to accept- and you still live your life as though that person were there with you. And how you can't erase the pain from your mind of that person dying. And you can't come to reality with what happened, all you want to do is bring that person back and you're life seems closed off and you are pushed into the back ground. My favorite lyrics in this song are " I live in the numbness now, in the background...", "And I'm hanging on your words like I always used to do", "I carry you around, in the background" * God Of Wine * "God of Wine" is really sort of about existentialism. I know that sounds like a total fucking joke, but it really is. Sartre wrote this thing called NAUSEA, and it's basically the fear of the predicament that we find ourselves in this life. The song "God of Wine" takes things from the cellular level, where it says, "And soon cells decay." And then also it says, "Every glamorous sunrise throws the planets out of line." The stars sent out of whack. The universe is expanding and it's crumbling. The universe is mortal. It's disappearing. Everything that we have, everything that we live in is pointless and crumbling. And some people are born with an innate understanding of that. They have this sort of life rage. And this is the melancholy that they find themselves in. It's a song about those people. And it's basically a story about how we turn back to the Irish theme. You turn to drink to escape that condition. In the end of this song, talking about the God of Wine, the bacchanalian, even that lets you down." -- Stephan This song is my favorite 3EB song, for reasons I'm not really sure of. WHen you look at the real meaning of it, it seems like an odd song. But when you listen to it, it builds up all these emotions inside and makes you think about things and view them in different ways. Well whatever..its still my favorite! * Never Let You Go * The song title pretty much sums it up. It's about being in a relationship and knowing that it should end, but you just can't 'let it go' This song reminds me of two of my friends...but I won't go there =) It seems like there is a lack of communication and that they dont want to be together, yet they are crazy and obsessed with one another and they can't accept that it's over and won't let it go, so they hold attatched but really the are ruining each others lives.. He feels more strongly about her then she does. He has every reason in the world for breaking up with her, but he can't. Well thats just what it means to me sorta.. =) * Farther * It's apparent that this song is about growing apart from someone, and changing but not changing with one another..if you know what I mean. Like growing up and changing and becoming who you are, while the other person is changing too and you just don't have the same connection anymore and over time it splits apart but you can never forget one another..it could be about a friend of a loved one... * Darkness * This song is based on the book "Jesus Son" so I couldnt really tell you what the song means for real..but I know what it means to me =) This is another one of my favorite songs. It seems in one view about being young and growing up in a city (something i know very little about) but in another way it is about just growing up, changing, getting forced into things, getting pushed away from what you thought were your real friends, losing yourself in these changes..stuff like that.. heh* |
